------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OMEGA 2.1 April 26, 2005 by Gerber Scientific Products www.gspinc.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OMEGA(TM) 2.1 Readme ==================== In addition to installing OMEGA 2.1 version 2.1.0.14 through 2.1.0.21 you must install the OMEGA 2.1 Maintenance Update from the Gerber web site. Also, Device Profiles are now installed from a separate CD or from the Gerber web site: www.gspinc.com/support/downloads/software.html. OMEGA 2.1 adds the following features: ====================================== * Support for new GERBER EDGE FX(TM) printer. * Enhanced Gerber Profile Manager permits a la carte profile management. * Gerber Device Profiles now delivered on a separate CD and are no longer automatically loaded during installation. * Enhanced on-the-worksurface Wireframe View modes in Composer. * New Wireframe Legend dialog box displays current modes. * New Detail Edit "Break Apart" warning box. * Spell checking has been implemented in the Enter/Edit Small Text dialog box. * An export filter is available for exporting OMEGA 2.1 files back to OMEGA 2.0 PLT file format. * Sift key dynamically switches between corner and center sizing of objects. * Print Preview is available from within the Paper Print dialog box. * Auto-connect Gerber script fonts (non-EDGE) without manually inserting open and close characters. * Document Properties dialog box in Composer shows job properties for the active document. * Hold down the Shift key when outputting a job from Composer File > Output to open the Quick Launch - Assign Job Name dialog box. * Support for JPEG images which maintain embedded color management profiles * Windows(R) 2000 style Favorites icons on the File > Open or Save dialog boxes. OMEGA 2.1 offers the following improvements: ============================================ * ART Path(TM) performs a pre-contour (outline) of cleanout shapes to eliminate looping shapes. * The Overlap and Safety Distance percentage values on the Default Cleanout Info dialog of ART Path may now be user-specified. Changed the default value for Contour Cleanout Overlap from 5% to 40%. * Character spacing snaps to guidelines in Composer * A correction for a lockup problem in Composer which could occur when a document was closed or when Composer was Exited immediately after selecting the Digitize New or Digitize Open Commands. * An updated GSP Setup program does not require an options diskette of the same revision as the OMEGA software version in order for that option to be installed (i.e. the “SysVer” value in the disk1.ini file on the options diskette is ignored.) * An updated Composer program corrects Combine Off button behavior. Button switches to “off” state when selection contains objects which are not combined. * A bug has been fixed in the CMX import filter which prevented files that included a Lens command from being imported successfully. CorelDRAW(R) Lenses are not supported and this information is now ignored during import. IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING DEVICE PROFILES: Device profiles for GERBER EDGE(R), GERBER EDGE 2, GERBER MAXX(TM) 2, Gerber Jetster(TM) and GERBER ELAN(TM) are no longer installed by default during setup. Because of the ever-growing number of profiles, profile installation is left to the discretion ofthe operator. Hard disk space recommendations for installing basic software: OMEGA CP = 1 GB or more** OMEGA CS = 500 MB** - 1 GB or more OMEGA CL = 500 MB** - 1 GB or more **These are minimum hard disk requirements. Additional hard disk space is needed to install options such as: ART Path(tm), ImageRIP(tm),and GerberColorID(tm) options. More free space enables you to work with larger image files and gives more room to keep previous jobs around for immediate use. Regular disk backup is recommended. 4. CD-ROM drive: Required 5. Close all OMEGA programs, including Gerber System Tray. (It is also a good idea to close any Windows programs that are running.) 2. If OMEGA 2.1 was obtained via the Internet, the setup program and all its necessary components have been compressed into a self-extracting archive. After downloading the file, double-click on the file name in Windows Explorer or execute the (.exe) from the Start > Run command line. You will be prompted for an "Extract To" (i.e. destination) folder. Once the contents of the archive have been extracted, the files may be copied to a CD or the setup.exe program may be run from the "Extract To" folder. If this program was obtained from the OMEGA 2.1 Installation CD, insert the CD into the CD drive of your computer. The setup program should execute automatically. If the setup program does not automatically begin, click Start > Run, then type "d:\setup" (using the appropriate drive letter.) 3. Click OK and follow the onscreen prompts. The setup program loads the software. The system's rbase will be updated to 2.1.0.X (where X is the version listed on the installation disk) after a successful upgrade. The rbase value may be verified using Gerber System Tray. 4. Device Profiles are now installed separately using the Gerber Profile Manager and the Profile CD or downloaded Device Profiles from the Gerber website: www.gspinc.com/support/downloads/software.html. 5. For OMEGA versions 2.1.0.14 through 2.1.0.21, you must download the OMEGA 2.1 Maintenance Update in order for your Gerber plotters to have the correct cutting profiles.
